Professor Jenny Hocking is an
award-winning film script writer and author. She has been with Film Art
Doco since it's inception and has been involved in every major film and
new media project.
She is the author of three major
biographies of Gough Whitlam, Frank Hardy and Lionel Murphy.
Her book Beyond Terrorism, which informed
the research for Conspiracy, was
published by Allen & Unwin in September 1993.
Professor Jenny Hocking is currently Research Professor with the
National Centre for Australian Studies (NCAS) at Monash University.
Jenny is a past Director of NCAS and was a 2002 Harold White Fellow of
the National Library of Australia and has published widely on aspects
of contemporary Australian politics, national security and labour
history. Her book Gough Whitlam A Moment in History (The Biography Vol
I) was launched by the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in November. It is
currently going into paperback. She is the author of a biography of the
late High Court Justice and former Attorney-General in the Whitlam
government, Lionel Murphy, Lionel Murphy: a Political Biography
(CUP. 1997, 2000); co-editor of It's Time Again: Whitlam and
Modern Labor (Circa Books. 2003) and author of Frank Hardy
Politics Literature Life (Lothian Books 2004).
In 2002 Professor Hocking made written submissions to and was invited
to give evidence before the Senate Legal and Constitutional Legislation
Committee and the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Asio, Asis and DSD
inquiries into the government's counter-terrorism security legislation.
Her book on Australia's counter-terrorism developments post-September
11, Terror Laws: ASIO, counter-terrorism and the threat to
democracy, was published by UNSWPress in 2004.
